Heart failure, a global burden
Result of a mechanical dysfunction in the heart from conditions like ischemia, precipitates a systemic hemodynamic imbalance, typically marked by volume overload. This condition, when arising suddenly or rapidly worsening, is known as acute heart failure (AHF), a major medical emergency and one of the leading causes of hospitalization and mortality globally.
Hospitalization rate
In the United States and Latin America, up to 30% of patients hospitalized for acute heart failure (AHF) are readmitted within the first three months; and within six months, the rate climbs to 50%, affecting one in every two patients.
Increasing costs
The American Heart Association had previously reported that the total direct and indirect costs of heart failure in the United States alone were expected to increase from $30.7 billion in 2012 to $69.7 billion by 2030.
In acute setting, kidney is key
Due to the volume overload presented on these patients, one of the main treatment strategies is the use of diuretics, these medications have an action directly in the kidney to improve diuresis. However, due to alterations in intra renal hemodynamics, the response to these medications could be jeopardized.
Cardio Renal Syndrome (CRS)
When those hemodynamics alterations affect the kidney’s normal function, or vice versa, the management of these patients is more challenging.
Different studies suggest that around 20% to 30% of patients hospitalized with acute heart failure may show evidence of renal dysfunction, and the incidence can be higher in certain populations.
Berluchi™
Percutaneous renal perfusser.
Our disruptive system directly optimizes intra-renal hemodynamics, enhancing perfusion . Our proprietary, adjustable flow technology grants physicians bedside control, enabling to manage renal pressures according to patient’s acute condition needs.
Berluchi DUO™
Our proprietary technology adapted to be deployed also in the Inferior Vena Cava, enhancing both arterial and venous hemodynamics, providing improved renal perfussion and reducing venous congestion.
